This is a used cable take-up and pay off machine in working condition. Machine can be used to coil cable or wire rope onto a spool or to pay-out cable or wire. Machine was originally built by the navy for winding winch drums with wire rope but it could be used for numerous winding and unwinding processes. The machine uses hydrauilc power to drive either the spool shaft of the winch drum drive. By moving the control lever forward the drum drive (right hydraulic motor) turns along with the traversing head. Throwing the lever backward operates the larger spool shaft (left hydraulic motor) in the winding up direction. If you want the traversing head to operate in the winding up direction some of the hydraulic lines would need to be Teed together so both motors turn on the same time. The traversing head has two speeds which are selected with a lever on a gear box. The speed of both motors is about 60 RPM. Hydraulic power is adjusted with an adjustable flow valve.

SEE TEST VIDEO FOR ANOTHER EXPLANATION OF THE OPERATION.

The original usage of the machine was to wind winch drums with wire rope. The winch bobbins were clamped into a cradle and a coupler was engaged into the end of the drum. The drum could then be powered by a hydraulic motor to the pull the wire rope from the larger spool while the traversing head evenly moves the rope back and forth on the drum.

The machine is in good working condition. It has some faded and chipped paint although it was built extremely well.
