SEE VIDEO BELOW FOR DEMONSTRATION

This is a used vintage driver training aid made by Werner Deneger. The set was used by the US Army Publications and Training Aids Center to help Americans learn German motorway laws and signage. Various background panels are included which include street scenes, roadway signs, and one that shows the lighting on different types of vehicles. Crossing signs and traffic lights are included as seen in the photos. The control panel has two double-sided overlays for the bank of toggle switches.

Please see the video for a demonstration of the unit. The device basically works by illuminating a panel that has different painted images with a bank of light bulbs. There is a control panel with many switches that each correspond to a particular bulb.  When a bulb is switched on the light travels through the panel and the small image, either a car or road sign is projected. There are five different "scenes" that can be selected. There are two "street" scenes that help teach right-of-ways by selecting different combinations of cars, bikes and even tractors that are passing through the intersection. There are two road sign scenes to help teach different road signs. There is also a scene of the front and back of a car to help show the headlights and taillights of a car. Along with the main "scenes", there are extra visual aides such as the railroad crossing lights, traffic lights, and unique rotating traffic light.

The device is in fair to good condition and it works electrically with only a few burned-out light bulbs. There are a few scratches and slightly bent pieces of metal in the traffic lights. A couple of the toggle switches have been broken off. Cable to connect the main body to the control panel is included. The carrying case has some damage on the back which can be seen in a photo. There is no indication of the date anywhere on the pieces but if we had to guess we would say from the 1950s or 1960s. This is a fun collectible piece that a user can interact with that has plenty of switches and buttons to press.
