This listing is for the ULTIMATE alternator, generator, starter and voltage regulator test stand. The unit was originally built for the US military so it was designed to the highest standards with many features. It can test 12V and 24V automotive starters and alternators or some aircraft starter generators.  Alternators are mounted on the right side of the machine with the aid of a vice and belt driven with a 12,000RPM motor. Load is applied to the alternator through range selector switches and a load bank that handles 300 A at 14 VDC. The alternator test area is shielded with a flip-down cover. Starters are tested on the opposite side of the machine and are mounted and clamped in a test cradle. A 200 amp power supply is used for free run testing of the starters.

The control panel includes many selector switches, digital indicators and other controls for a wide variety of test options. The operator controls and most other functions are all controlled with a PLC.

When these systems were originally sold to the government they came with a chest of accessories which mainly consisted of specialized cables for different military equipment. The cables that we have included will be adequate for most ordinary vehicle component testing.

The manufacturer of this machine is no longer in business but most the components such as contactors, heaters and other electrical componenets are off-the-shelf components.  We have a few of these machines and will most likely be able to supply support parts.   We backed-up the PLC program to disc so if the PLC ever dies, a replacement can be installed and the program can be downloaded ensuring the machine will not suffer a lengthy breakdown due to a PLC program issue.

The government paid $140,000 for this unit around the year 2000.  This machine is virtually unused with only 5 hours of runtime.  All of the machine functions were tested and it works well.  There are scratches and minor corrosion in some spots from years of storage but as mentioned before the unit works well and is ready to ship.  This unit contains many more options and is built better than most commercially available test stands and would make a great addition to any starter and alternator rebuilding shop.
