This is a used rotating air bearing test table for providing a nearly torque-free spinning platform for testing spacecraft, instruments or avionics. The unit is made up of a very heavy cast iron base, spindle assembly, slip ring, drive motor, and table assembly. The pedestal base supports the turntable section with a u-shaped cradle. Turntable section can rotate in the cradle to change the angle of the spinning axis. A slip ring with approximately 60 conductors is built into the rotating assembly for powering the test specimen. Drive power comes from a special motor which is integral to the lower portion of the spindle assemble. Motor has multiple poles and sets of conductors as can be seen in the photos.  The mounting surface is a 1 3/4" thick steel plate which is mounted atop of a 1 3/8" thick glass plate.

This is a highly specialized unit that was built to the highest standards and would require a fair amount of knowledge to operate. Dunn Engineering and Wayne George are the manufacturers on the nameplate but they do not appear to be in business anymore so support will be solely on the buyer.  There is a crack on the thinner section of the casting near a hand wheel but this is not part of the main structure. The handwheel will also need to be replaced.  The turntable cannot be turned by hand although it is not known if there is an internal brake or gear reducer that could be impeding the rotation.  We have another one of these units as well.
