This is a vacuum multi-platen hot 140 ton press in good working condition. System consists of a control skid that contains that hydraulic components and control cabinet and then the press unit that has the vacuum pump mounted underneath. Press was made in 1989 but had the complete control system updated with a PLC, HMI and proportional hydraulic control in 2006. The control system allows multiple modes of operation such as manual mode, with and without vacuum and automatic mode where temperature and pressure values can be achieved in multiple segments. The platens are 30" x30" and there are two daylight openings. There is a manual door on the back of the machine and a powered door on the front of the machine. Cooling is accomplished with compressed air and water. The machine was mostly tested as can be seen in the test video and it worked well.
The press and control skid were temporarily connected as our facility so we could test the functions of the system. Due to space constraints we temporarily extended the wiring to test the unit, but all of the wires are properly labeled and ready to be connected when the units are placed directly next to each other. Operating the unit in manual mode allows you to simply enter a temperature and then you activate the press and once it is closed the desired tonnage is entered on the touch screen. The press will remain closed until the "open" button is pressed. The powered door can remain open, or the vacuum mode can be selected in manual mode as well. Automatic mode is where an operate can select from a saved list of recipes or make a new recipe with all of the temperature and pressure settings. The recipe can have up to ten segements and the transition from one segment to another can implement ramps in temperature or pressures or they can jump to the next segment. We made a quick recipe to demonstrate the door closing, vacuum pump turning on and press achieving the setpoint and it all worked as it should. The pressure in automatic mode is set by entering the dimensions of the part you are pressing and then typing in the desired PSI and the PLC calculates the required tonnage.
The system is in good operating condition as can be seen in the video. The press was tested in manual and automatic modes and up to the max setpoint of 140 tons. A new main ram seal was just installed. All of the wiring diagrams along with copys of the PLC and HMI program are included.
