This is a Comparative Tracking Index Tester made by Grabenhorst PTL. This is a testing machine for determining the tracking currents on the surface of plastics. The machine works by dispensing drops of a solution between two electrical electrodes where carbonization occurs of the polymer. Once the current exceeds the threshold of the test, the test is stopped and the current threshold is lowered and further testing occurs.
The machine is sitting in a custom made ss/aluminum fume hood to allow ducting to be connected to the top port. Machine was powered up and tested and it worked well and produced arcs on the substrate as can be seen in the test video.
