This machine is used to dimple aircraft sheet metal to provide a countersink surface for rivets.   This stationary machine features a 3' throat for hot dimpling up to 3 feet from the edge of the aircraft panels.   The control unit houses pressure controls and timers for the dimpling process and there is a separate control box for the digital temperature controllers. The unit was powered up and tested as can be seen in the video.  The basic theory of operation is that the squeezing force is done in two steps.  When the foot switch is pressed the die closes at a lower pressure level to preheat the metal then the pressure is increased for the length of the dwell time and/or until an "end of stroke" limit switch is reached.  Both the male and female die platens are heated.

This is an older machine but it is fully operation and in good condition and works well.   The digital temperature control box was added to replace the older original analog temperature controllers that are located in the control box that stopped working.   The original control box operates the pnematic system and the new control box operates the heaters.  There is also a storage box on the left side of the machine that houses a large set of the dimpling dies.
