This is a filament tensiometer assembly from a prototype machine that was never put into production. The main components of the system are a stationary tension meter, tension clutch, and motorized tension arm. The filament passes though a tensiometer, around a pulley with a magnetic brake, past a proximity sensor, though a dancer mounted to a gearmotor with tension brake which also belt drives a potentiometer. The gear motor drives the dancer arm through a magentic slip clutch but the dancer movement is limited to about + and - 45 degrees from vertical with physical stops. We think the system would be setup where the motor is always turning which would peg the dancer arm against one of the stops and the magnetic clutch would slip in this position. The dancer arm would then get pulled by the tension of the filament away from the stop against the torque of the clutch. This movement would be measured by the potentiometer.
