This is a Hart fog tester that is used to determine the outgassing characteristics of plastics for automotive interiors. The instument works by heating a beaker in a test well where the sample is placed and as the sample out-gasses the "fog" condiensats on the lid of the beaker due to it being cooled. The condinsated material is then measured to determine the fogging characteristics of the plastic material.
This particular fogging tester is self contained and provides the heat for the beaker and cooling for the lid all internally as opposed to other models that need external chillers. Included is three glass beakers, special silcone gaskets and extra condensing plates. Unit was powered up and the wells got hot and the condensing plates got cool as they should.
OPERATIONAL NOTE: This unit works as it should but the cooling display flashes the phrase "cut-out" inbetween showing the temperature. After checking the manual, it appears you can set a cutout temp, but the manual then says "the cut-out temp appears in the secondary menu but it is not used. It seems this parameter was maybe once intended to be like an over/under temp setting, but then they never implemented it. To reinterate, the cooling display screen switches from showing the temperature to the word-cut out, but this does not affect the operation of the unit.
